Julie and Rick went to Costa Rica in December 2011 along with their adult kids and significant others. They took Caravan Tours' 10 day escorted tour, Starting and ending in San Jose.  Here are some highlights:

Poas Volcano outside San Jose. If you're luck you can see the crater and lagoon near it.

It's in a cloud forest so the clouds go sailing through it.

Poas crater.

Cafe Britt's comedy team of Maria and Luis...they say they are or were married, depends on who you asked. But they made the tour of a coffee farm very entertaining! I can't vouch for their coffee, but their chocolate is fantastic!

Butterfly Gardens we stopped at for lunch.

This little guy is sitting on our daughter's hip! That's her pants pocket. Owl butterfly.

Passing another boat on the way to Tortugero...the only way in or out is by boat or

small plane.

Coming into the resort in Tortugero.

A tiger Herron just hanging out on a resorts's boat.

Money from the park entry fees go to help the green sea turtles nesting in the area.

An "orange" iguana, a male trying to impress the females.

This Cayman reminded me of our old beagle at home, just laying in the sun all relaxed.

Family members showing how big the tree roots were of a 150 year old tree.

Arenal Volcano from the road walking back to the Magic Mountain Hotel.

Practicing on the zipline "school" line to see if you can handle it.... we could!

And the guides are friendly!

The only blue macaw in Costa Rica! He's actually from Brazil and someone's pet. Macaws mate for life, this one's mate died and so he hangs around people now.

Rick walking on one of the suspension bridges.

A view of Arenal Volcano from one of the hanging bridges.

He was coming back for more until everyone showed up with cameras...

Sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Another monkey, another tree....

Full moon from our balcony at the JW Marriott.

Pool area at the JW Marriott.

You read that right...a crocodile safari....

Our guide got out and fed the (big!) croc raw chicken...photo op...but crazy!

An Osprey down south for the winter... we think from Minnesota since we see them up there when we're home visiting family.... it could be true...

Confusing if your room is 504... which ours was....

Clouds moving over the Poas Volcano crater.

Lagoon just an "invigorating" walk away from the crater.... uphill all the way there!

Costa Rica's coffee regions.

Just one of the butterflies in the restaurants garden. So exotic!

This one was dark and mysterious, but I managed a photo!

Center of town in Tortugero from the waterside.

Mosiac benches at the Laguna Lodge in Tortugero.

An Anhinga, they have to fan out their wings to dry off.

A Cayman, a small cousin of the crocodile.

River turtles warming themselves in the afternoon sun.

Sunrise over the Caribbean Sea. Three days later it was sunset over the Pacific!

Pineapple field at the Dole Pineapple Plantation.

Beautiful flowers at the hotel.

Safety is muy importante! Guides on all platforms, safety lines you're hooked up to and helmets wore by all.

We all made it safely! A good time had by all, a real highlight of the trip!

The suspension bridges we walked on...not the rickety Indiana Jones kind...

The scene below us from the bridges.

A coati, a member of the raccoon family, stealing garbage from the tourist's trash!

A courtyard at the JW Marriott in Guanacaste (on the pacific side of Costa Rica).

Howler monkey up in the tree by the beach.

An iguana warming himself in one of the resort's courtyards.

A creche out in the courtyard at the resort.

Subtle Christmas decorations around the resort.

Just a pretty photo op at one of our lunch breaks.

A croc lounging on shore away from the boat...I'm good with that!

One last look at the tourists before swimming away...

Christmas tree in hotel lobby at Holiday Inn Aurola in San Jose.
